In order to prevent construction workers from being taken advantage of by their employers, New York has a law known as the “Scaffold Law”. This law gives construction workers the ability to demand things such as safer conditions without having to worry about losing their jobs. It instills accountability in contractors who control construction sites. There have been many cases in which this law has been applied in different circumstances. The rule of the law requires individuals directing construction sites to provide the necessary equipment such as scaffolding to ensure the safety of their workers and if not provided, the workers have the right to request it without risking losing their jobs. These laws are mainly meant to protect against injuries from things that are high up and fall downwards. In some cases the city ruled that even though the plaintiff wasn’t directly injured by the falling object, but instead while trying to get out of its way, it was still covered by this law. Injuries on construction sites can be very dangerous and even fatal.
